Solar Eclipse in the cloud

On October 25, 2022 a partial solar eclipse was visible from my place. At around noon, 22% of the sun’s surface was covered by the shadow of the moon. Weather conditions were not good, and work commitments did not allow to spend a lot of time on it. But around its maximum, I managed to get outside and shoot some pictures. The sun was hiding a lot behind passing clouds, but every now and then it popped through. Above a picture taken at one of those moments.

The image was taken using a Leica SL2 mirrorless camera with Leica SL 90-280 f/2.8-4.0 telezoom objective @ 90mm. The lens was protected with a Baader Solar Filter in front of it. Exposure was 1/50s at f/2.8, using ISO400.

Examples of much better images are this, or in this thread, or for a more artistic effect this. It will take a while before we can observe a (partial) solar eclipse again at this location. The next available opportunity is 29 March 2025.
