Takahashi releases new telescope: FCT-65D
Takahashi, the Japanese high-end telescope manufacturer, just released a brand new telescope, the FCT-65D. It is a Fluorite Corrected Triplet (FCT) with an aperture of 65mm and a focal length of 400mm. This results in a capable f/6.2 astrograph. For those who prefer a wider field of view, a dedicated high performance internal 0.6x reducer is available. This turns this compact scope into a pretty fast 260mm f/4.0 imager. The telescope has a strehl ratio of 98% and a camera rotator is standard. With these specs, it looks like a mini-TOA.
Back in the 80’s there was a full line of FCT telescopes, with apertures including 65, 76, 100, 125 and 150mm. Whether or not the current FCT-65D is the start of a similar series of telescopes is unknown at this point.
Together with the scope, also a new style aluminum Vixen style mounting plate and 95mm rings are released, that have a similar look as the More Blue rings and plates.
